| January, 2003 (album review) Jennifer Terran : "The Musician" |

Hypnotic. Beautiful. Thoughtful. Intelligent. Four words that quite explains what we’re dealing here for sort of music. Jennifer has a voice somewhere around Sarah McLachlan, Tori Amos, Joni Mitchell and Ani DiFranco. The piano is the main instrument on here, and that combined with her lovely dream-esque voice, great lyrics and cool arrangements (sometimes melancholic, sometime joyful) make this album a winner. I can imagine the lyrics for all you Americans/Englishmen, cause as a Swedish guy with English as a “hobbylanguage” it’s a bit hard to get a grip of it all. Musically I get a grip though, and as I said earlier in the review, it’s a very beautiful album. Perhaps there are a few too many songs on the album, cause they’re built up all in the same sort of way. But all in all, it’s sure a nice album to check out if you like the girls you just read about. Well add Kate Bush as an inspiration as well. My fave tunes on here are the opener “Liberty Lunch” and the “cover” of “Santa’s Secret”. That one is pure magic. |
